View of Freedom from Robbens Island SA
20” x 24”
In May of 2023 I traveled to South Africa with a small group of artist friends from our town. Three of us went earlier and took a tour to Robbens Island where Nelson Mandela was held captive for 18 years for his role in apartheid. It seemed like such a desolate island but one of the views from that island looking back at Cape Town was the one I painted. The waters were treacherous and life threatening. I could only imagine how Nelson might have felt if he had been able to stand on the same spot looking out onto freedom.
This is an oil painting on high quality linen panel adhered to ACM so it will not warp. It is professionally framed in a silver toned contemporary style frame. Oil on linen panel, professionally framed in a silver toned contemporary frame measuring 24” x 28”.
