11” x 14”

Watercolor on hosho paper with hot wax resist.

I use hosho paper, also known as rice paper, and paint with my lightest colors. I then use hot wax to cover the portions that I want to keep that light color. Then I go in with darker paint and use the wax again to retain that tone. I keep repeating the process until I have put down my darkest dark. Then I cover the entire painting in wax, ball it up, lay it our flat and then scrub paint into the cracks. Then I iron off all of the wax between sheets of newspaper.
