Steve BonDurant

Steve BonDurant was a student of art from an early age. He earned his AAS in painting and BFA in medical illustration from RIT. He studied with Don Stone NA on Monhegan Island, Maine as well as in France and Italy. Steve still uses Stone’s method of warm and complementary underpainting with the Gruppe palette of warm and cool primary colors.

Steve is one of the founding members of Pittsford Fine Art. He is a signature member of the Rochester Art Club, a founding signature member of Genesee Valley Plein Air Painters, and paints most Saturdays, year-round, with the All-Weather Gang, a group of invited outdoor painters that formed in the 1980’s.

Steve has competed in the Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival and Adirondack Plein Air Festival and finds the benefits of painting outside more significant than the challenges, although studio painting can be conducive some days.

“What appeals to the human eye, to develop an emotional connection, is a lifelong pursuit.” To evaluate a potential painting subject and see it painted in the mind’s eye can contribute to developing a sense of being, to evoke a memory, or to remind the viewer of a favorite place. Steve brings his easel nearly everywhere he travels, hoping for a painting opportunity, and his favorite place to paint is the next place.
