Kathy Armstrong
After getting a degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Kathy worked most of her life as a graphic designer in Wisconsin and Colorado—creating paintings in various mediums when she could find the time. Once she tried watercolor Kathy was hooked. Primarily self-taught, she later took classes from Colorado artist Julia Jordan. Over the years Kathy has honed her skills in watercolor using layers to achieve strong color and values. When not painting in transparent watercolor she also uses oil, acrylic and gouache.
Kathy moved to the Rochester area in late 2017 and now paints and teaches full time. She shows her work in regional, national and international shows and has participated in plein air festivals including the Adirondack Plein Air Festival, Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival, Clifton Springs Plein Air, as well as others. Kathy is a signature member of the Philadelphia Water Color Society, Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, and the Rochester Art Club. She is a member of the American Watercolor Society, International Guild of Realism, and the Greater Rochester Plein Air Painters.
Kathy has over 30 years experience painting in watercolor and now teaches it both virtually and in-person at the Pittsford Spiegel Community Center. She is one of Pittsford Fine Art’s founding members.
