Bill Mowson
After a 25 year career in engineering, Bill Mowson retired from the high tech industry in 2000 to become a full-time painter. Originally from Rochester, Bill spent most of his first career in Colorado and New England. Out of the many places that could have been selected to begin a fine arts lifestyle, Bill chose the Finger Lakes region. “In my many years of travel, I have never found a more beautiful and diverse landscape than this area.” Mowson paints his landscapes to document the beauty and tranquility of the world in which we live, but so often fail to appreciate.
Bill’s painting style is characterized by the use of abstract elements and large passages of wet in wet color combined with calligraphic and dry brush techniques, which help to draw in the observer.
Bill is primarily a self-taught artist, painting exclusively in watercolor. He sells both limited edition prints and original paintings in regional art shows, select art galleries, wineries, gift shops, and online. His work has appeared in many national exhibitions including the prestigious Arts for the Parks show and the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors. Numerous publications have reproduced his work including International Artists, Artist’s, and Life in the Finger Lakes magazines. Bill’s original paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S.
Bill is one of Pittsford Fine Art’s founding members.
