Bill Finewood
Professional artist and educator Bill Finewood earned a MFA degree from Syracuse University and worked in illustration, design, and fine art his entire career. He retired from the School of Art at RIT as Associate Professor and Coordinator of the illustration program. Bill is currently a member of theWayne County Council for the Arts.
Inspiration for Bill’s work comes from many places, including where he lives, works, and plays. Living in the Finger Lakes region allows him to view unique landscapes, architecture, and technologies. His summers feature respite in Northwestern Montana, where plenty of wildlife and spectacular landscapes influence his paintings and drawings.
“Most people don’t take the opportunity to look at every feather on a graceful great blue heron or observe vegetation surrounding a fidgety ground squirrel. I do!” says Bill. “My personal studies in illustration, interest in nature, and a surprisingly lengthy career so far have provided me with plenty of practical knowledge and understanding, enabling me to visually communicate with a broad spectrum of everyday folks, students, and commercially proficient professionals. My personal makeup and curiosity have given me permission to create art, revealing the most important information I can observe within my subjects and their surroundings.”
