Amy Colburn

Amy Colburn began her artistic career after earning a BFA in Visual Communication Design with a concentration in Illustration from the University of Dayton. She initially worked as a freelance illustrator in Rochester, where she also built a mural business, creating both exterior and interior works throughout Rochester and the Finger Lakes region.

From her home studio in Naples, overlooking Canandaigua Lake, Amy now focuses on oil painting. Her contemporary realistic style captures the nostalgia of vintage and aged objects. She is particularly drawn to items that show the beauty of time—rust, patina, and other signs of wear—imbuing her still lifes and portraits with a sense of history and mystique.

Amy’s work often explores the challenge of depicting reflective glass, intricate patterns, and vintage typography. In each painting, she works to render as much realism as possible, creating intrigue through her appreciation for the textures and stories of the past.
